2008-2009 High School Offerings

The 2008-2009 High School Program is for 8th and 9th graders.** There are options for participating weekly or every other week: A. Torah and Life All students attend this class, which meets every other week. The curriculum will follow the interests of the group, focusing on selections from Torah with traditional and contemporary interpretations. We will learn to ask excellent questions about Jewish texts and customs, and through questions we will learn what our tradition is all about. Our goal will be to connect Judaism with personal identity and to try on Jewish lenses for looking at the world. B. Old Words in a New World This class is a supplement for students who wish to study every week. It is most appropriate for students who have studied in a congregational Hebrew School and can sound out Hebrew. Students will have a chance to remember and improve upon the prayerbook and biblical Hebrew that was part of b’nei mitzvah preparation. Our goal will be to break through the barriers to finding meaning in  the Jewish tradition. All classes meet on Sundays, 4:00-6:00 p.m.    Classes alternate by semester between Congregation Ohev Shalom in Wallingford, PA and Congregation Beth Israel in Media, PA.
