#1 Preparing to meet Pharaoh
For three days we have been setting the stage for the encounter with Pharaoh.
Day 1: Background info on God
Day 2: Background info on Moses and Aaron
Day 3: The plan: Each character's role in the ensuing drama
Except that it was the day's portion, I would have skimmed over Day 2 of this set - just another genealogy. Forced to give it its day, I see that it is a strong structural element. Before God sends Moses in to speak to Pharaoh, the text focuses on each of them, lets us get to know them, like an announcer telling the bios of the team members before the kickoff. Moses is no longer just some guy, and God is not just doing this on a whim.
