Opening Hebrew for Advanced Beginners
The 2010-2011 Opening Hebrew class is for “advanced beginners.” The main group of students will be people who are continuing on after taking Opening Hebrew for Beginners last year.
Are you ready to join the group as an advanced beginner? This class is right for you if you are any of the following:
- Someone who knows the Hebrew alphabet, can comfortably read from the prayer book, and can recognize the meaning of a few words and endings.
- Someone who has studied a bit of Hebrew in the past and is ready to dive back in.
- Someone who felt a bit too advanced to start with last year’s Opening Hebrew class but would really like to learn more.
- Someone who isn’t afraid to make mistakes and wants to learn Hebrew in a fun and supportive environment.
See below for a link to a vocabulary list to help people review or catch up. There will be two sessions with Danielle in late August and early September to help new people to get oriented to the curriculum.
The textbook for the class is Prayerbook Hebrew the Easy Way, published by EKS. The class last year studied through Lesson 14. This year’s class will begin with a review of all the material covered last year, and continue to the end of the book by next June.
Opening Hebrew is taught Danielle Parmenter, an extremely talented and dynamic young rabbinical student who has been working with Mekom Torah for two years. Danielle is a marvelous teacher, and she has an infectious love of the Hebrew language.
